Have you ever looked at yourself and thought, “Who am I? I don’t even recognize myself!” We all face identity crises now and then, particularly in seasons of transition. If you’re struggling to root yourself in identity, then this post is for you! We are who God says we are — sons (and daughters) — predestined to become joint-heirs with Christ (Romans 8:17). That means that no matter what challenges we encounter, we can stand firm in Him.
Our identity is what keeps us secure. It reminds us that we belong to God and that we have certain victory. In society today, most people make decisions based on how they feel or what they see in their environment. Then, later on, those decisions create a life and an identity for them. But In the Kingdom, it’s reversed. We base our decisions on who God called us to be, and our identity leads us.
It’s time to root yourself in identity!
So many of the babes in Christ have an understanding of who God has called them to be, but they’re not sure how they can partner with God to see their own transformation. Well, the bible tells us that all the scriptures are God-breathed and train us in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16). Meditate on the verses that outline what God says about you. Here are 3 truths to help you rook yourself in your God-given identity:
I’m chosen and blameless!
Ephesians 1:4 says, “Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.”
Before you did anything good or bad, God chose you!. You matter to Him, and His mind is made up concerning you. This is a powerful truth to meditate on because the enemy would have you needlessly striving for perfection. While it is true that you have to make the conscious effort to live well, it’s not for His approval — it’s because of His approval. Do you see how that perspective changes things?
I’m an heir!
Galatians 4:7 says that we are no longer slaves, but children of God — this makes us heirs!
It takes an attitude adjustment to go from a slave mentality to an heir mentality. Slaves are driven by fear, and they work hard for little to nothing in return. But heirs don’t need to work for their inheritance. The promises of God are given as a result of our relationship with Him, and we work to glorify Him with our gifts and callings. Everything we do is to share the joy and gratitude we feel from being a part of the Body and having a Father who loves us.
I’m accepted!
To root yourself in identity means you understand that God has accepted you. This truth is so freeing. Everything you did in the past to be accepted is no longer required in the Kingdom. God knows you inside and out, and He accepts you, despite you. When you fully embrace this in you’re heart, you will begin to live completely authentic. IT takes away the pretense and helps you to walk in the power of your individuality.
Knowing who you are in Christ is going to impact every area of your life. You will begin to have more clarity and understanding about who and what belongs in your life, which will help you on your journey to becoming the one. It’s important that you take your time to develop a solid foundation so that whatever you build will stand firm.
